Josh Austin

Josh was born and raised in Kayenta, AZ on the Navajo Reservation. His parents were teachers and missionaries in Kayenta for 24 years. In 1993, Josh was a part of the Arizona 3A State Championship team in basketball. He then attended the University of Denver on a basketball scholarship. Josh met his wife Divine while attending school in Denver. After graduating, he spent a few years in the business world and was then convicted to attend Bear Valley Bible Institute in Denver, CO. Josh and Divine then moved back to Kayenta and preached there for nine wonderful years. There was an opportunity to work with the Bear Valley Bible Institute and assist in starting a preaching school in Cameroon, Africa. Josh and his family moved back to Denver and helped in this effort in Cameroon for almost 2 years, but he had a strong desire to move back to Arizona and dedicate his life to sharing the gospel with the Native people he had spent most of his life among. After a year of preaching in Morenci, AZ they moved to Mesa to help plant a new congregation. The goal was to reach out to all people, while having an emphasis towards the Native population in the Phoenix area. That goal has been blessed and the Salt River Church of Christ now strives toward Christ with a variety of ages, cultures, races, economic backgrounds and beliefs. Along with his wife of 16 years, Josh has four children (Aaliyah-13, Alyssa-11, Alayna-9 & Josiah-7)

Evan Todachine

Evan Todachine was born and raised on the Navajo Nation in Kayenta, Arizona. After graduating High School in 2009, Evan attended Arizona State University on multiple academic scholarships. While in college, Evan would then marry his high school sweetheart Crystal. It was in college that Evan and Crystal were converted by a good family friend, Josh Austin.  After the tragedy of losing their 1 year old son, Evan and Crystal were forced to truly study out God's word for answers. By the grace of God, Evan and Crystal grew in their faith only to realize that the hope and peace they found in Christ was something they wanted to share for the rest of their lives. They decided to attend the Bear Valley Bible Institute of Denver. Evan graduated in 2017 and returned to Salt River to help the Austin family in an effort to reach his Native people with the saving gospel message. Having been raised in the traditional Navajo teachings, Evan understands firsthand the conversion process and obstacles for Native Americans out of their belief system. Evan's passion lies in the area of Christian Evidences and Apologetics. Evan currently is engaged in graduate studies. Evan and Crystal are blessed with two beautiful daughters - Faith and Kenley. They are truly grateful for all that God had done in their lives and cannot think of anything else they would rather do.

Our Church

The Church of Christ started in 33 AD on the Day of Pentecost in Jerusalem.  There were about 3,000 people who were baptized into Christ for the forgiveness of their sins.  This was the beginning of the church that grew throughout the world and still exists today.  There is no earthly headquarter, president or creed book that the church follows.  Our authority comes from God, through His Holy Bible.  Each congregation is led by its own leadership.

The Salt River congregation started in August 2013 in the home of Josh and Divine Austin.  Shortly after meeting in their home, the church started meeting in the Salt River Pima Community Center and Canal Side.  After 2 ½ years of renting at Salt River, the church then moved to N.W. Mesa.  We now enjoy a nice building with plenty of room to teach, preach, pray, learn, serve and encourage one another in our journey to grow in Christ.
